Questions about exterior painting

What does exterior painting include?
Essentially everything on the outside of your home: facades, window frames and windows, fascia boards and gutters, sheds and outbuildings, dormers, doors and shutters. I can also advise on the right colours and materials.
What is your approach to exterior painting?
Exterior painting starts with a thorough inspection. I check all woodwork for wood rot, cracks and flaking paint. Everything gets sanded, degreased and primed where needed. Only when the surface is 100% ready do I apply the top coat. I use paint systems that last at least 6-8 years.
How often does exterior paint need redoing?
On average every 5-7 years, depending on the orientation of your home. Facing north or lots of wind? Then sooner. I use paint systems that last as long as possible.
Can exterior painting be done in winter?
That depends on the weather. Below 5 degrees or in rain, I don't paint outside. In winter I can do interior painting and repair wood rot, so we can tackle the exterior straight away in spring.
Is scaffolding needed?
For higher facades and dormers, yes. I arrange that for you. The costs are included in the quote so there are no surprises.
What paint do you use for outdoor painting?
I work with professional exterior paint from Sikkens and Sigma. These paint systems are specially developed for the Dutch climate. Depending on the surface, I use opaque lacquer, stain or facade paint.
How much does exterior painting cost?
That varies per job. It depends on the surface area, the condition of the woodwork and whether wood rot needs to be repaired. I always come to look first and then give you an honest quote. No surprises afterwards.
